The Einsiedlertal Valley takes you from Bad Honnef up into the Siebengebirge, direction Löwenburg. In English, it would be “Hermits’ Valley”, and if you like wild romantic sceneries, you will enjoy this trail.
You can start your hike at the parking lot “Einsiedlertal” at the road “Schmelztalstraße”, about halfway between the city of Bad Honnef and its district Aegidienberg in the hills. The hiking trail takes you up into the Seven Mountains, direction Mount Löwenburg. Here you see Siefen, the deeply cut wet valleys in the Siebengebirge.
This southern part of the Siebengebirge has gone through an eventful history. The road name “Schmelztalstraße” refers to the name of the area, “Schmelztal”, which would be “Melting Valley” in English. Here, lead, zinc and copper were mined and melted since 1753, there were more than 70 mines around of Bad Honnef. The mine “Theresa” in the Einsiedlertal, later called “Happy Elise” was one of the oldest; along the trail you can see some remnants.
