The Rhineland in the Kingdom of Prussia

After the victory over Napoleon, the statesmen of Europe at the Congress of Vienna restored the old order. The whole of the Rhineland, Westphalia, and some other territories fell to Prussia. As citizens of the State of Prussia, the Rhinelanders lived to see the establishment of the German Empire, the First World War and the Weimar Republic.

From revolution to unification

So the native Rhinelander Carl Schurz, Forthy-Eighter and later statesman in the USA, and many fictional characters in our emigrants' story "At home at the Rhine and in America", native Rhinelanders too, were citizens of the State of Prussia.
